Web Design
Web Design requires a lot of creative thought, from coming up with an initial idea to realising it with an end product. Web Pages often resemble other forms of media, such as newspapers and magazines so in a sense a web designer does a similar job to a newspaper editor. However, there is a whole world of theory and rules to follow attributed to web design that sets it apart from various other means of mass media.
One way in which it differs it through SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation. This is the art of making a website popular through search engines, so that your site is of high quality and easy to find for users. Websites that do their jobs and carry out the tasks that they set out to do will find themselves higher in the rankings in search engine, therefore it forces websites to be of high qualities.
It also involves moulding the particular website into a specific form, so that search engines can find it and present it to web surfers. Therefore a good website will have appropriate forms of headings and tags, as well as links to and from the website to increase traffic. The aim of the game is to get the website higher of the rankings of search engines.
A further way in which this is often achieved is through networking and link building. Search engines favour websites that link to other relevant websites and vice versa. Therefore web designers must find websites to link to or to link from and preferably ones that do not have a large number of websites already linking there.
It shows that there is a lot more to web design that first meets the eye.
The process also requires knowledge of a complex language of coding which is used to create things that we take for granted when we visit a website. It means that it is not as simple as creating a layout for various other forms of written or visual communication. A web designer (or client) must decide if they wish for the website to be static or dynamic, with the former applying to websites with no moving parts and do not change unless an admin says so. Dynamic sites, on the other hand, refer to the websites that move and change.
Web Design and Search Engine Optimisation are both complex worlds that encompass a whole range of techniques and methods for making a top quality website.
